Well I think my 8 year old iMac just bit the dust......it's just black.....

I turn it on with the button on the back of the screen, it comes on with the little Apple icon, is on for about 5 sec then goes to black. I think itís dead.

2. Wanna buy my 15 yo G5 tower

Still boots up and runs the Adobe suite of Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.

Slowly but it does. Use my iPad for everything now just canít get rid of the tower, donít know why.

3. Take it to the nearest Apple store, along with an external hard drive.

They can save the data and maybe the machine. At least they'll tell you what's wrongófor free.

That's one advantage of having a Mac.

4. Hope you backed it up!!

Could be the hard drive took a dump.. Time for a new one?? or a referb?? I got a referb iMac and it died after a week. Took it back to the genius bar and the manager just said
"give him a new one"...... Nice ! Good customer service IMHO.

5. I had to have my hard drive replaced a few years ago. They called it a "vintage" system. Hahaha

Luckily my external hard drive had saved everything. No problems since.

6. Don't have an external hard drive.....

hoping my time machine will have my backups.....if not, then my last 8 years are all gone. Going to Apple store tomorrow, plan is to just suck it up and buy another iMac.

7. Can you boot it in Target Disk mode ?

Scroll down a bit to get to Target Disk Mode, but the other hints might be worth trying too.
