"refreshed" the computer and now mail accounts won't sync
I've come to the end of my daily rope. Anybody have this problem since both Microsoft and Yahoo now charge for service? I had to do this on a Saturday evening unfortunately. I reinstalled Windows Live Mail (lost the mail, kept the contacts) and my Mozilla Firefox browser. Up until 3 am trying to get things back to normal. I can sign-in to the live mail, but then can't "log on" to the yahoo account - which is pretty old with an sbcglobal.net address. Called several times and spent a couple of hours getting nowhere. From what I gather you either must now have Yahoo Mail Plus - which costs 19.99 annually or pay Microsoft to go in an find the problem. It was synced up fine before the refresh and seems like a scam to me.
Could it be the modem, even though I'm able to access in the internet o.k.?
Any advice is appreciated.

(41,694 posts)Yahoo changed it's deal with ATT. If you want to access an ATT email you have to pay for their plus service. If you have a yahoo.com email, you don't have to. If you have an old SBC account that is still active you can access it through att.net on their webmail page. Live Mail is the new Windows Messenger and it's a PITA just like the old version. If you have a regular POP3 type email account install Mozilla Thunderbird.

(9,081 posts)I'm not sure which. It keeps files and instsalled apps, but will bring pc back to factory settings. Turns out the reason for the "refresh" didn't solve my problems which have been slow to respond websites and a new larger display via Mozilla Firefox. And now somehow the email connection isn't working between Live Mail and Yahoo. I've got SBC so I'll try a call and see what happens. Microsoft charges. I spent a couple of hours getting nowhere with a few different reps yesterday morning.
Thanks so much for your info hobbit709!

(9,081 posts)Then I found an instruction on line that pushed me over the finish line. However, it's stopped working for now and I hope rebooting will sort it all out.

(9,081 posts)I finally thought to check the properties on the other computer with the same mail server. A few more tweaks, and I have mail coming and going. And figured out that Firefox has a way to change the text size to be just right.

(9,081 posts)Suddenly I have smaller text size. So when I set the font to 10, it looks tiny to me, but probably larger where it arrives.
ctrl+ sadly doesn't fix that. I'm just happy to have sorted out most everything and have a functioning laptop with Windows 8, which I still don't take advantage of.
