Any Roku users here?
Not sure if this is the correct forum, but it's the closest I could find.
I received a Roku unit as a gift a few years ago and plugged it into our fairly new flat screen TV. Worked fine for a while, then we started getting the HDCP error screen. So each time I followed the instructions (basically, unplug everything and plug it back) and got it working again. This happened several times over a period of maybe a couple of months, then suddenly it was working fine. More recently, we plugged it into a brand-new flat-screen TV. Fine for a few months, then the error screen started again. So I went back to the plug/unplug drill, but over the past few weeks the error screen has come up three to four times over a period of maybe an hour and a half. Sometimes, if I just give it a couple of minutes, it goes back to showing the program. I've looked for solutions online and on the Roku web site, but they basically just say to do what I've been doing all along. Could it be a defective unit, or do these things just crap out after a few years so you go out and buy a new one, or is there a "real" solution to this? Thank you.

1. That don't last forever. I had one I
couldn’t figure out if it was the remote or the Roku. I replaced the whole thing.

2. What does the error screen say? I have used mine for about 5 years and the only error
I have ever gotten is the HDCP error.

5. If you are getting the HDCP error (copy protection) then either your ROKU is probably not HDCP 2.2
or maybe your TV isn't or if you are using a AV receiver [using hdmi (arc)]. I have noticed that I usually have seen it on commercials. It will appear then usually goes away until the next commercial, etc. If this is your error then more than likely it is the content provider causing the error because they are using the HDCP 2.2--I would check your TV, Roku model, and maybe the AV receiver if applicable and see what level of HDCP each supports. There are devices that will mask this for you if it is a major problem.

4. Sounds like a lemon
but can't be sure from limited info. I've used Rokus for years with little trouble. I like them. I have 3 right now. Roku Ultra is a nice unit in my opinion.
You might try Roku forum in Reddit, or community.roku.com for better troubleshooting advice. |
