Got a small issue re Firefox
My parent's computer has Windows 7 and Firefox 11.
I also use Win7 and Firefox 11 at work, and on my computer I have XP and Firefox 11.
Only on my parent's computer does the Menu Bar keep disappearing.
About once a day, when Firefox is started, it will pop up without the Menu Bar. The navigation bar is there, the Norton bar is there, but the menu bar isn't.
So I right-click on the top of the window and show the Menu Bar. And it stays there... until the next day, when it is gone when start Firefox.
I can't find any setting that would seem to make this happen.
None of the other computers I use has this problem. The Menu Bar is always there at the top, like we like it.
Anybody have any clue as to what's going on?

(224 posts)I'd suggest disabling all Firefox extensions and plugins (including the Norton plugin) installed and seeing if the problem goes away. If FF works fine with all extensions and plugins disabled then enable one extension or plugin at a time until the issue crops up again. That way you can determine which add-on is causing the problem.

(49,445 posts)I'll check it out today some time.
I keep all the stupid add-ons from being installed on their machine, but I can only do so much! Maybe something slipped in.

(2,805 posts)I can't say this will work but it won't cause any harm. I had a problem long ago with maybe FF 3.x where FF wouldn't remember to open in a full screen window. I deleted localstore.rdf on the idea that it might be corrupt, and let it be automatically recreated upon starting FF. After that it remembered my setting. I would think something like showing the menu bar would be in the same category of settings and the configuration may be stored in that file too. Deleting it may be worth a try.
Close FF. Go to Start and type in %appdata% but don't hit <enter>. Roaming appears in the list of search results so click that. It puts you in the Application Data folder. Go to Mozilla folder then Firefox then Profiles then xxxx.default folder. Delete localstore.rdf (or rename it if you choose, so you could undo but it won't be necessary). Start FF. Set your menu bar to show. Reboot and see if it sticks.

(224 posts)Before rebuilding a new Firefox profile this would be the appropriate step. I use the nightly developmental builds. I am used to creating a new profile because profiles potentially can get hosed easily in a nightly developmental build. I didn't give this idea a thought. I'm used to using the shotgun approach which may not be necessary. Letting Firefox recreate the localstore.rdf file is a good first step and it is easy to do.

I'll have to work on more suggestions this week.

(2,805 posts)Other than that all I could suggest would be to create a new profile in FF and see if the problem persists in that profile. Copying bookmarks over to the new profile wouldn't be difficult if the new profile would hold the menu toolbar setting.

(224 posts)is that when View->Toolbars->Menu Bar is checked that the menu bar isn't staying from session to session. It somehow becomes unchecked and that should not be happening.

That will give you advanced look into Firefox settings.
It's like it's own version of a registry, so be careful.
If it is doing it with every addon disabled, then I'd back up the bookmarks and do a reinstall of Firefox after removing it, via add remove programs in Windows.
