Is your router open to public view? It's not going to use any less power with them off. hobbit709 Dec 2015 #1

I like the lights on mine on so that if I connect a computer I'm working on I can tell right away if the router sees it.

Everything is passworded, unless there's a backdoor I don't know about.

there's a power light, an internet connection light-that tells if the internet connection is active, there's usually 4 port lights that tell you which of 4 wired ports is active, there's a wireless light that tells you the wifi is on. If any of the lights is either off or goes to red, then you have a problem.
