My laptop w Windows 7 is operating very slow.

I am on Wifi and wonder if it might be my router. Is there a way to test a router? I have tried rebooting with limited success.

Are there good, free softwares that might help? Like slimcleanerplus?

I have Norton and have run their scans and tools to no avail. I also have run malewarebytes to no avail.

Try plugging the computer into the router with a cable and try the speedtest again

Microsoft Security Essentials works and is free. It's one of the few things they've done that actually works right.

And that is a slow internet connection speed.

7. Have you tried rebooting the modem? Try connecting directly to the modem.

If you have and it didn't improve the speed, I'd be calling your ISP and raising hell.

got 34.2 Mb/s. Seems that would indicate my router is bad. It's only a couple of years old.

Could be your laptop needs a major cleanout and tuneup. Try connecting the laptop with the ethernet cable and see what you get. Have someone come by with a different laptop and see what it does.

And ur Internet is really slow. My sister had the same issue. Cable company would not help so she changed providers, now she is flying. Run defrag, get rid of norton and check router with a cable not off wifi to be sure.
