Boris Johnson threatens to SACK Tory Remainer MPs who vote to block No Deal as plot to scupper...
...Brexit intensifies
Boris Johnson is threatening to sack rebel Tory MPs who vote to block a No Deal exit from the European Union, it has been claimed.
The Prime Minister is set to prevent Remainer MPs within his party from standing at the next general election should they try to prevent a No Deal next week. [link:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7413615/Boris-Johnson-threatens-SACK-Tory-Remainer-MPs-vote-block-No-Deal.html|] Seriously? Democracy destroyer. When you think things can't go any further - they do... How quickly will he start rounding them up and putting them in camps if they don't vote his way? So very 1933 I really hope there are enough Tories who are outraged by this that they fuck him over on a vote of no confidence... otherwise... ![]()

2. What's going on the UK right now is one of the most important
stories. I hope the citizens and the MPs can avert this disaster of Boris Johnson. Never in world history have we more needed responsible leadership in our European friends, since we have such a horrid vacuum here. I'm hoping there's a live stream of the protests today.

3. Lol ! If he does that and they stand as independent conservatives,
the vote will be split, resulting in potential losses for Johnson. And he knows it. He's either bluffing or mindlessly stupid. Could be both.

4. Either way the Tory & Unionist party splits, by the looks of it.
Elitist-populist-rightists on the one hand, competing for outright xenophobic-nationalist-fascist votes; elitist-conservative-center-rightists on the other, competing for more liberal-centrist votes.
The center- and further-left also find themselves, but this is normal, somewhat in disarray... |

18. "Brexit Party" beat the Tories in recent Euro elections
The Brexit/Tory split is already well along.
Johnson should know this. What I don’t understand: what do Johnson and Rees-Mogg and Murdoch and the Barclays get out of Brexit?? In the US it’s clear to me what Trump and the Koches and Adelson and Murdoch get out of Republican plutocracy: tax cuts and deregulation. And the immigration stuff is just a way to get votes for that agenda. But how does Brexit itself help UK Tory billionaires? Or is it just a way to get votes for reactionary oligarchs? (If so, then you’d think it doesn’t actually need to happen, just always be on the horizon.) |

20. Good question. It's not as obvious for the Brits.
Probably the same reasons as the Americans, since oligarchs love money more than anything else. The conspiratorial side of my brain thinks this is one more step in the rise of the Putin lead global oligarchy and the death of liberal democracy as we know it. The rational side says they're not that smart or organized. Rich people scrounging around to get richer just looks like a conspiracy. But the end result may be the same. An accidental global oligarchy with a thin democratic facade.

21. It's more involved than a simple split.
There was large-scale UKIP/Brexit Party entryism into the Tory Party before Johnson's election. How loyal those entryists will be to the Tories in an upcoming general election remains to be seen.
As for how Brexit helps billionaires, any large-scale economic upheaval presents opportunities for those on the money markets to profit, e.g. by shorting sterling. And in the aftermath, the country will be ripe pickings for deregulation and other measures that will profit the wealthy. Rees-Mogg et al. have the bulk of their wealth salted away abroad, so they'll be safe. It's not dissimilar to the situation in the USA, and indeed, many of the same US actors have been supporting Brexit (DU tends to overboard by pointing at Putin every time the UK has a setback, but the links to US capitalists and libertarians/freemarketers are well documented, and have been for years). There's also the issue of EU laws governing money laundering, tax havens etc. Under May, these regulations were supposed to be retained in UK law, but all bets are off now. |

22. Money. Many are betting the collapse of the Pound if they go out on a no deal.
They can then get back in with the money they've already stored in safer currencies.

5. JHC! UK, it is time to stand up to this abolishment of any sense of democracy.
What is most painful in the US, is that an absolute idiotic clown is driving our downfall. With Boris, the same is true of the UK, IMO.

10. They'll have to pursue all strategies simultaneously in order to defeat Boris.
David Cameron is to blame for this whole Brexit disaster. He called for a leave/remain referendum vote and then resigned from office in order to avoid being caught up in the coming disaster that he helped to bring about.

15. I'm a US citizen with British friends and relatives.
My British (born in England) friend, who lives here in the US and in Northern Ireland, is a Oxford educated college professor, who thinks that there is virtually no way out of a no-deal Brexit crash out. However, I’ve not spoken with him in the last three weeks. I value his opinion and am interested in his thoughts on this final, desperate parliamentary showdown.

... for his treasonous coup, after all this is over.
Hoping those old Tory moderates John Major and Ken Clarke can help to right the ship and restore British democracy. Dark times I never thought I'd see in my lifetime. ![]() |

23. Sheer madness.
Makes me think of how the liberal and moderate Republicans were driven out of the party in America, and in the end they got Trump!
The one good thing about it is that it might cause them to lose seats! At present, the government has a majority of 1, and that's with the DUP. |
