Julie Payette, Canada's new Governor General, is such a brainiack that

she memorized her speech to parliament. She's a former astronaut. She gave time to talking about indigenous wisdom and how great it is that we as a country are listening again. She talked of people and their dreams. Support systems and helping others less fortunate. She one good egg. And we have had a lot of good eggs as GG. The last one made it his mission to protect the public school systems across the country.

There is another way to be a country, they need to know.

Whether appointed by the Libs or the Conservatives, they're enthusiastic about their duties. Some may say, "What's not to like? Nice salary, treated like royalty, lots of travel." But that grind can wear on a person after a while. It's not for everyone.

David Johnston never seemed to tire. Michaelle Jean was fantastic. Adrienne Clarkson, although some accused her and her husband John Raulston Saul of being a bit pretentious, also kept up quite a pace.

I think Payette is very much looking forward to the role. But she's feisty (you don't achieve all that she has without it) and there's potential for her to get embroiled in some hot water politically. Because I generally agree with her politics I sort of look forward to it.
