Related: About this forumMost Canadians believe the country is still in recession
Despite what Statistics Canada says, just over half of Canadians believe that the country is in recession, according to an annual outlook survey by Pollara.
In this years edition, 44 per cent said it feels like a mild recession, and 8 per cent said it feels severe. Forty per cent chose growth and 1 per cent selected strong growth. Another 7 per cent said they dont know.
Jobs are the big worry, the survey found. A record high of 34 per cent of Canadians surveyed, just over a third, are concerned an immediate family member will lose his or her job this year.
Thats up from 25 per cent from last years results, and even higher than the 32 per cent registered following the 2008 recession.
Even if the stock market is doing better than it was in 2008 or 2009, people still feel like there arent enough jobs out there or the job they have is in jeopardy because businesses are trying to cut back, Arnold said.

My neck of the woods took top honors in Ontario with an 8.8 unemployment rate.

StatsCan goes by those RECEIVING EI benefits, they have no mechanism to track those actually not working.
Welfare recipients, homeless, or others - they just fall off the radar.
Our governments are farming out our jobs to other countries, leaving the locals to scrounge for a living.
I recently learned that here in Northern (and probably other parts of) Ontario our SNOWPLOWING is contracted out to Australia.
Not much wonder our roads are poorly cleared and our Food Banks are overwhelmed.
Thanks Harper . . .
