I am a volunteer with Tom Johnson's campaign. He is running against Republican Walker stooge Lee Nerison who knows his days are numbered. Western Wisconsin, particularly here in the Driftless, did everything including voting for Barrett/Mitchell. So I say it's not over. We recalled Republican Senator Dan Kapanke and got Jen Schilling coming up for Senate reelection, as well as Tammy Baldwin, Ron Kind and others.
Tom is a USAF veteran and will be a great Assembly member and leader.

(34,661 posts)There you go again, worried about sand mining. Please wake up,what the hell else do you have to export, other than stupidity, your farming is only subsistence at best. Your main street business people killed any new industries in the sixties, can't have unions or living wages. All of your younger people left to work in Minnesota, higher wages and unions.
Tom Johnson will be a wonderful change agent, but,he can't do it alone.

(36,063 posts)I'm a veteran. I find the nation is thoroughly and more than less unjustifiably jingoistic.
I just wonder if the added value of a person being a veteran is based on aspects of a person's service that is useful, as an example, perhaps a veteran dealt with some aspect of command/administration--not necessarily as an officer-- that provides useful experience/insight to governing) or whether it's just not a white feather.

(26,083 posts)Fwiw, I am not a veteran of military service. Broke an ankle at my preinduction party, never took the oath nor basics at Ft. Campbell nor artillery at Ft. Lewis like the recruiter setup before going off to combat in the Republic of South Vietnam as I requested (1970).
We, the people need legislators like Tom Johnson and I'm glad he has stepped up.
He deserves your support and the vote of those of US living in the 96th Assembly District.

(1 post)I am Tom Johnson the candidate. When in the service I lead a pararescue team. This taught me how to be a leader. I learned how to lead people in very stressful situations. I learned the best way to lead is to be honest with your team. You cannot just talk the talk you must walk the walk. As a leader you must be willing to go above and beyond. You also must listen to those you lead. A leader is not a superstar, but the person who listens and then acts. Listening is one of the most important traits of good leader. My time in the service also taught me that a leader must be cool and calm but when needed be ready to fight for what you think is the right course of action.
After I was injured I spent time as a Student Squadron Commander. This taught me first to delegate and to listen to those around you with years of experience. I also learned one must be able to work and try to understand and respect everyones put of views. The first sign of a bad leader is the my way or the highway mentality. A true leader invites everyone to be a part of the decision making process, everyone has a right to be heard. Only then should a leader make a decision.
I also learned never to give up. After I was hurt I went through 28 major surgeries. The doctors told me I would be disabled. I lost a leg but never have given up. I jumped back into life and have been very active including running volunteers for campaigns, serving on the board for the Westby Housing Authority, President- elect of Rotary active in Viroqua Communtiy Theater etc. One must go on and not let the impossible stop them.
ONWARD AND UPWARD WISCONSIN!

I'm 62. In all that time I never joined any political Party until now.
Btw, are you in Jill Billings District? How about Senator Jennifer Schilling (32nd)?
Fwiw, I was Sen. Schilling's only drummer when we successfully recalled Republican Dan Kapanke last year. Kapanke was the "boss" of Tom's opponent Republican Lee Nerison.
Again I urge DU to help support Tom Johnson's campaign.
