MADISON - Wisconsin schools superintendent Tony Evers is mulling a run for governor, making him one of the most prominent Democrats to consider a challenge to Scott Walker.
Evers, who heads the state Department of Public Instruction, has been rumored as a possible candidate against Walker since easily winning a third term in April. Democrats believe they have a shot at denying the governor a third term of his own but have yet to settle on a champion.
In an email, Evers said he was talking to people about a run and "listening to what Wisconsin needs for its next governor."
"I've been approached and asked to run by a number of people," Evers said. "I can say that I'm considering it and keeping the door open."

(3,577 posts)Evers is just right as Superintendent of Public Instruction and he has done a great job of protecting public schools as much as possible. He did win the statewide election this spring, but his opponent was clearly unqualified and came with the taint of unethical and illegal behavior.
Although Tony Evers is a very nice person, honest and caring and fully versed in educational matters, I don't think he has the background to be elected governor. To be honest, he doesn't have a lot of charisma and isn't an engaging speaker. My favorite among the potential candidates is Kathleen Vinehout, super smart about all the issues and personably forthright in manner.
