...massive project planned for Madison’s West Side could cost taxpayers up to $196 million

Why do we need to replace "Hillfarm" when we are taking 315 million out of the university system? Bricks and mortar verses education, seems like a lose lose to me

The state has chosen a team of companies from across the Midwest to redevelop the Hill Farms site, a massive project set to become the largest state-owned office building.

State officials announced plans to negotiate a contract for the project, which involves buying and replacing the home of the state Department of Transportation, in a letter sent Monday to the winning development group. That team includes Gilbane, which has an office in Milwaukee; C.D. Smith, based in Fond du Lac; HGA, headquartered in Minneapolis; and SmithGroup JJR, headquartered in Detroit.

“Moving forward, we will be engaging in negotiations about the overall cost, specific project details, and a number of items that need to be resolved prior to the final contract being executed,” Department of Administration spokesman Cullen Werwie told the State Journal. “Given the complexity of the project, we anticipate taking a few months on these negotiations, at which point we’d move forward with the additional approvals needed to execute the final contract.”

Here's a little refresher from 2011

When the home of one of Gov. Scott Walker’s longest serving and closest aides was raided by the FBI and other law enforcement officials two weeks ago, the governor’s press secretary refused to discuss the raid.

Cullen Werwie said he would have no comment on the extension of a John Doe inquiry being conducted by the Milwaukee County district attorney to include Cynthia Archer. Archer was Walker’s chief aide when he served as Milwaukee county executive, and moved to state government as a top political appointee in the Department of Administration and point person in the assault on collective bargaining rights for state, county and municipal employees and teachers.

But Werwie is talking in a different venue — or, at least, he’s willing to talk. After he refused to level with the press and the people on Archer, it was revealed that the governor’s press secretary had accepted immunity in what has turned into the most sweeping scandal ever associated with a Wisconsin governor.

It turns out that Werwie, who joined Walker’s gubernatorial campaign after last year’s primary and then became a key aide to the governor, accepted immunity in the John Doe probe of official corruption on April 14 of this year.
