Nearly half of Seattle-area hospitals earned 'A' in safety report

When you go to a hospital for any reason, you probably have a simple set of explanations.

Most patients would expect that the facilities should be clean, the staff should be attentive and that avoidable deaths shouldn't happen. In some hospitals, these parameters are met. According to the data from the Leapfrog Group's 2019 Hospital Safety Grade though, not all medical centers are equal.

For the process, Leapfrog's panel looked at 28 unique metrics of hospital data, ranging from the responsiveness of staff to instances of MRSA infections. Hospitals are then graded on an A-to-F scale.

It's not just a fancy score for hospitals to parade around, either. Research done in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute found that risk of death for patients in hospitals with a "D" or "F" grade increased 91.8 percent.
