Seattle's low-income residents are 5-7 times more likely to be without internet
The internet has become increasingly vital to our everyday life. Not only is it how you'd be able to read this article on this particular publication, it's also increasingly how people watch TV, interact with their medical providers, and even apply for work.
And nearly 95 percent of households in the city have internet connection of some kind. But while that number marks a Seattle that's more connected than ever, it doesn't mean that our internet equity problems are solved.
According to a new study by the City of Seattle, people living in low-income communities are five to seven times more likely than the average citizen to not have adequate internet access. While 99 percent of households with an income of $50,000 or more have internet access, that number dropped to 79 percent for households making less than $25,000 per year.
Almost one in four residents say they do not use internet due to issues over cost, speed or confusing service plans.
