Inslee releases $1.3 million to defend immigrant rights
Blasting the Trump administration for seeking to "terrorize immigrant families," Gov. Jay Inslee on Wednesday released $1.3 million in state money to a group offering legal assistance to victims of the zero-tolerance policy.
"Everyone is entitled to a fair and due process, and this money will make sure Washington is doing everything it can to protect that system of justice for all," Inslee told an Olympia news conference.
"These families and their children need help right now," added the governor.
Inslee indicated, without giving detail, that there are nine children currently in Washington who are impacted by the zero-tolerance policy. More than 170 women, most of them seeking asylum, are being held in the federal detention center at SeaTac.
