Seattle City Council 2019 Election: Kshama Sawant Pulls Ahead

SEATTLE, WA ó Two ballot drops Friday will provide Seattle voters with a much fuller picture of the 2019 General Election. King County Elections estimated Friday's updates would include results from 60,000 Seattle ballots and 100,000 more countywide. After Friday, just 5 percent of King County ballots will need to be counted.

Despite record outside spending to reshape the Seattle City Council, with seven seats in play, two incumbents maintained comfortable leads over the opponents, while a third closed the gap considerably Thursday. Four other incumbents did not seek re-election.

In District 3, where incumbent Kshama Sawant had trailed Egan Orion by more than 8 points in early results, the two were separated by just 2.5 points (739 votes) Thursday. By Friday afternoon, Sawant led Orion by more than 1 point (513 votes).

UPDATED ELECTION RESULTS [Includes ballots counted as of 4 p.m. Friday]

CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 1

Lisa Herbold: 55.36%

Phil Tavel: 44.28%
