CROZET, Va. (AP) ó A Virginia high school student has been sent home for wearing a hat bearing a Confederate insignia.

News outlets report that the Albemarle County Public Schools spokesman Phil Giaramita said it happened Tuesday, the first day of the school systemís new dress code banning hate symbols.

The Western Albemarle High School student was asked to remove the hat and refused. ... The studentís father supported his sonís decision and signed him out of school.

Giaramita said it was the only incident related to the dress code change on Tuesday. ... Superintendent Matt Haas has cited the deadly Unite the Right rally, the regionís history of slavery, and resistance to integration and examples of racism in local schools as reasons for the ban.

Not to get all First Amendment-y and stuff, but I have a feeling this edict will be challenged in court.

4. Having Once Been A Young Idiot Who Thought

that the Confederate Battle Flag looked cool, I still have a tiny bit of sympathy for this kid and hope that he wore it as a fashion accessory and not as an incitement. Nevertheless, he still needed to take it off.

Fifty-five years later, I hope that he learns that the CBF was not simply a flag for regionalism, but also a symbol for segregation and white supremacy.

6. He wore it as a test of the new dress code. Now he and his dad will file

a lawsuit and yell their rights are being violated.

8. Why can't we refer to those and MAGA hats as "Dunce" caps?

Look at the fools who wear them.

9. I was on the phone with one of our daughters and told her about this,

as she lives near Crozet, and she said, "I'm surprised they can wear hats at all - when I was in high school, you were not allowed to wear hats inside the school."
