Lovettsville native, injured-in-action veteran Rob Jones to run 31 marathons in 31 days

Retired Marine Sergeant Rob Jones has been known to achieve the extraordinary. Jones, a Lovettsville native who lost both legs when he stepped on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2010, has won a bronze medal in the Paralympics and remains the only double above-the-knee amputee to ride a traditional bicycle 5,180 miles across America.

Now, Jones is setting out to run 31 marathons in 31 days

After starting his venture in London Thursday, Jones will continue his month of marathons in Toronto and major cities throughout the U.S. He plans to end the month on Veterans Day in Washington D.C.

“I mean to show my fellow veterans that they are not alone, and only need ask in order to receive all of the support they need,” Jones said in a statement. “By running in both London and Toronto, I plan to also raise these issues in the populaces of America's allies that I have fought alongside and who face these same issues.”
