1. Infrastructure is something that is not fixed in one day.

It takes years of construction and a decade of modeling and planning. Politicians live from election to election and rarely fathom anything outside their election cycle. This is why much of the US infrastructure has been so badly neglected.

The rest of the country does not have these issues. Greg Abbott did virtually nothing to work on this issue in part because he gets a ton of campaign contributions from the power industry

Because Most of them voted for this leadership.

Sucks for us Democrats, but Texas is a red state after all, and so it should be No Surprise when they act like a red state.

12. Maybe things are starting to change

I think we are not so much a red state as an apathetic state. Turnout historically has been abysmal, with interest only beginning to increase in the last couple of cycles. Republicans always get their fanatical base out (because fear and anger), whereas our base tends to check out - especially in non-presidential cycles. We have been under GOP rule so long many Ds were demoralized figuring their vote wouldn't matter anyway. Beto, in part, may have gotten their attention showing we can be competitive. Long way to go though.

Is a call to conserve energy something that Texans will accept? Is individual sacrifice for the common good a part of people's culture?
