It Appears Even Perry's People Believe His Whole Campaign Has Been An "Oops" Moment

Schutze said it the other day: Gov. Rick Perry's probably just a few days away from crawling back to Austin with his tail tucked between Anita's legs. We'll know more tonight at 7, when the Des Moines Register releases its all-important Iowa Poll, and Happy New Year to you too. But this morning, several Friends of Unfair Park send word: Already some of Perry's own people are prepping the parachutes just in case this thing goes further south and God decides He really tapped the wrong haircut on the shoulder.

The reason he became governor was because he was at the right place at the right time. As a former state employee, I also know that there was a lot of resentment to John Sharp when he ran against Perry for Lt. Governor. IMO, Perry would have lost that election if he had run against another prominent Democrat which probably would have been the end of his political career.

Even a ton of money couldn't sell Perry to the American people. What's scary is that it worked for bushie. Honestly bushie and perry are the same idiot.

We both know that it is much more difficult to maintain a "C" average at Harvard than at Texas A&M.

The fact that Goodhair is returning to Texas and not going on to South Carolina says a great deal

And more to the point the republican money bucks are stopping their flow of money going his way. So yes it's very likely the idiot is returning to Texas permanently. Lucky us.

What an amazing turn of events. It started out as an ordinary speech by a losing candidate. Rick Perry thanked Iowa, he thanked his supporters, he thanked his family, and he read a letter from a young man who had driven from Texas to work in the campaign, all of it routine stuff. And then, suddenly, it wasn’t routine any more. Perry made the startling announcement that he will return to Texas on Wednesday to assess the results of the Iowa caucuses, in which he finished a distant fifth. “With a little prayer and reflection, I’m going to decide the best path forward,” Perry said. I was totally stunned. I never expected him to surrender. Just a few hours earlier, he had told CNN he intended to fight a fifty-state campaign. Now it appears that he is getting out of the race. I could not help but think of Lyndon Johnson, speaking to the nation on March 31, 1968, when he concluded his remarks to the country with, “I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your president.”

Is Perry history? It would seem so. It’s hard to imagine a reassessment that would result in his resuming his campaign. He could start over, moving forward with a new team, but he has already tried that once, and the new team had no chemistry. Move forward to what? He is nowhere in New Hampshire and in single digits in South Carolina. Florida is no better. He’s done.

Stick a fork in him and toss him off the grill. Better yet throw the whole batch of rotten out with the trash. I really wish we could have another election for governor this year.
