'White Lives Matter' event at Texas A&M planned for Sept. 11, activist says

Preston Wiginton, a political activist who helped bring white nationalist Richard Spencer to the campus of Texas A&M last December, says he will host a “White Lives Matter” event on Sept. 11.

The announcement comes the same day that a car plowed into a crowd of people protesting against a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, killing one person and injuring dozens more.

A helicopter crash that killed two people Saturday outside Charlottesville also was linked to the rally by State Police.

According to Wiginton’s statement Saturday, the Sept. 11 event will take place “at Rudder Fountain between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. with speakers between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.”

2. I wish that some determined, organized, thoughtful faction within the Texas Democratic Party

would send in some highly intelligent, inconspicuous, thoughtful white person to try and get some of the alt-right speakers to start riffing on Hispanics and how they feel about the Fourteenth Amendment AND GET IT DOWN ON VIDEO for use upcoming campaign seasons.

I fear that instead, the best we can expect the Texas Democratic Party will do will be to send in some green-haired, PC-babbling idiot wearing his/her Bernie Sanders tee shirt asking obvious troll questions that alt Right speakers will be able to deflect.

I am so TIRED of us Texas Democrats losing.

5. Austin, Texas' Lesbian Avengers knew how to do this.

The Lesbian Avengers of Austin, Texas knew how to catch right-wingers speaking what they really meant without giving themselves away. Why can't mainstream heterosexual Texas Democrats be so clever?

3. This constitutes pissing on my late Aggie father's grave.

His grave, and the graves of countless other smart, kind, public-spirited A&M graduates. I hope there is a counter-demonstration, and I hope it is loud, ornery and effective.

4. I hope there are a lot of police to separate the nazis

from the resisters. They are violent and the cops allow it to escalate. That already happened in LA, Charlottesville, and San Diego.

White nationalist rally at Texas A&M to feature Richard Spencer; counter protest planned

A College Station white nationalist is planning a rally on the campus of Texas A&M University that will feature the infamous self-described "alt-right" leader Richard Spencer. Students are already planning a counter event.

BY MATTHEW WATKINS AUG. 13, 2017 UPDATED: 17 HOURS AGO

*Editor's note: This article has been updated to include details about Richard Spencer's appearance and comments from A&M System Regent Tony Buzbee.

As the nation watched tension between white nationalists and counter protestors turn violent Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia, worries began to emerge that the discord would come to a Texas college town next.

Richard Spencer, an infamous white nationalist who brought major unrest to Texas A&M University once already, will be coming to College Station again, according to the man who brought him to the university the first time. This time, the event will take place on Sept. 11 at a "White Lives Matter Rally" hosted by Preston Wiginton, a Texan with deep ties to white nationalist movements.

Wiginton announced plans for the rally Saturday afternoon, saying he had invited Spencer. On Sunday, Wiginton said Spencer confirmed plans to attend. ... At the top of a Saturday press release announcing the event, Wiginton declared “TODAY CHARLOTTESVILLE TOMORROW TEXAS A&M,” referencing the violence in Virginia. ... Word of the planned rally generated immediate outrage on social media. Within hours, a counter protest had been planned. That event will be called “BTHO Hate,” the name of which borrows from an A&M football chant expressing the desire to “beat the hell outta” the opposing team.
....

“We hoped that December was the last time we would have to protest them,” {Adam Key, a doctoral student at A&M and the organizer of the counter protest} said. “Aggies started fighting Nazis in World War II. We have no plans to stop any time soon.”

Obligatory

7. After seeing the photo in the final tweet I am reminded

that college students are such slackers.

I hope that the student body ignores the protest so that Spencer and pals get no attention. Thanks for the update.

8. Great sign. Some sharp A&M student should do a little research:

Gather together all the names of Aggies who gave their lives fighting the Nazis in WWII, and have those names on prominent display at this wretched demonstration.

9. Rep: Texas A&M cancels Sept. 11 White Lives Matter event

Yeah http://www.chron.com/local/education/campus-chronicles/article/Rep-Texas-A-M-cancels-Sept-11-White-Lives-11818626.php?ipid=ntk

Rep. John Raney said Monday on the House floor that a white supremacist rally on Texas A&M University's campus has been cancelled. A university spokeswoman confirmed the news later Monday, citing safety concerns.

Texas A&M administrators consulted with law enforcement, system leaders and regents before cancelling the rally, spokeswoman Amy Smith said.

Preston Wiginton, a former Texas A&M student, had announced on Saturday that he would host a White Lives Matter event in College Station on Sept. 11. He planned to host a White Lives Matter representative from Houston and Richard Spencer, a white nationalist who espoused racist views on that campus in December.
