Muslim man says he's closing Galveston restaurant because of threats, harassment

A Galveston restaurant owner whose business was the target of anti-Muslim harassment last year said he's closing shop after receiving death threats.

Asad Khan, who immigrated to the U.S. from Pakistan in 1993, opened the Indian fusion restaurant ZaZa Bar and Bites on the island last year.

"I shut ZaZa down because of death threats towards me via phone calls," Khan told the Houston Chronicle. "In the last seven weeks or so {the} calls become worse. I did not enjoy being called 'sand N-word' or people telling me that I will die in ZaZa."

Khan has denied claims that he's closing because of financial troubles, and told the Chronicle that ZaZa is not his only source of income.
