In Upset, Ron Nirenberg is New Mayor of San Antonio

Iris Dimmick - Rivard Report

Mayor Ivy Taylor conceded to Councilman Ron Nirenberg (D8) just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 10.

“I first want to thank Ivy Taylor, our mayor, for her years of service,” Nirenberg said in his victory speech. “It’s not easy to do the work that we do, as any family member can attest. It takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of energy, and I want to thank our mayor for the service to our city.”

With 100% of precincts reporting, Nirenberg received a resounding 54.59% of the vote to Taylor’s 45.41% Exactly 5,266 votes separated the two in the early voting results. That margin grew to more than 9,091.

“There are many issues obviously that differentiate my vision from Mayor Taylor’s – on transportation issues, on diversity issues, on public safety issues – and I think that the voters have made some clear choices about the direction that they want to take the city,” Nirenberg said earlier in the evening. “This is a brand new Council so we want to get everyone together and start working on a unified direction for the city.”

1. Good news since Ivy Taylor is a homophobic mess.

Some of her comments fly in the space of stupidity also.

2. John Hagee's church

Ěsn't his church in the city? Did he or members of his church
make pronouncements regarding the election? I heard him
years ago proclaim that the city was ruled by Satan.

8. She was a questionable Dem, who moved to the right

During this recent campaign, she moved further to the right to tap into conservative voters.
It backfired.

16. She'll be switching parties officially very soon.

She's been rubbing noses with the local Republicans, she is female and she is Black and the Republicans aren't going to let her go when she can be an asset to them.

Certainly not trying to be sexist or racist, but that's the way the Republicans I work around think. Where do they usually go from here? Railroad commissioner???

11. It all depends on whose list "the scariest people for 2016" was.

Was it someone we should respect or just another wag?

14. So glad to see Taylor go!!

Nirenberg has been my District rep and he's done a fairly good job. Taylor is a crazy person.

My interest in SA is animal welfare and we were making great strides before her. Her 3-year tenure set us way back and I am hopeful things can begin to go forward again.

Taylor hates animals, particularly dogs. People like that have no soul and certainly no means of having empathy for anything! Good riddance!

17. I'm so glad that Manny Pelaez won D8

Cynthia Brehm was a loony RWNJ.
She was a Donna Campbell clone.

18. Oh me, too!

Brehm was cray cray to the max. Did you see the article where she encountered Manny's 76-year old father and challenged him to a fist fight???

She needs to get her ass busy now and take down all of her ugly campaign signs. Most of the other candidates' signs are gone in my area except hers.
