Proposed Portland Exxon plant discussed in public forum

CORPUS CHRISTI - The debate over a proposed Exxon Mobile plant in Portland continues. People for and against the project attended a public forum at the Portland Community Center tonight.

The group that held the forum, Portland Citizens United, wants more information on the plastics plant and what kind of chemicals it would put into the air.

Those who support the project are excited about economic development. The plant is estimated to create 600 jobs. People who oppose it are concerned about the aforementioned chemical emissions. The plant would be built about two miles from Gregory-Portland High School.

"We believe the chemical plant will transform our community and destroy the quality of life that we enjoy," Errol Summerlin, with Portland Citizens United, says.
