Soiled tampons, pads sent to Abbott to protest fetal burial rule

To protest the state’s rule requiring fetal tissue to be buried or cremated, protesters have mailed used feminine hygiene products to Gov. Greg Abbott, the Dallas Morning News reports.

In December, 17 women joined the mail-in cause that began with a Facebook message from Ele Chupik.

“I hoped that it would be taken as an insult,” Chupik told the Morning News. “The same way we feel insulted.”

The fetal burial and cremation rule was to take effect in December. Several Texas abortion providers sued, and U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks blocked enforcement of the rule and held a two-day hearing on the matter in early January.
