Breaking News: Little Elm police officer shot; authorities in standoff with suspect

A Little Elm police officer was shot Tuesday afternoon and authorities were in a standoff with the shooter.

Denton County Sheriff's Lt. Orlando Hinojosa told KXAS-TV (NBC5) that the officer was flown to a hospital; his condition was serious, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. No other injuries were reported.

The shooter was barricaded in a home in the 1400 block of Turtle Cove Drive, NBC5 reported.

Hinojosa said police responded to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. after someone reported seeing a man with a gun. Officers heard a man screaming at them from the backyard of the home, and they backed away when they saw a rifle.
