Health foundation grants $6 million to Texas Tech - El Paso dental school
The Paso del Norte Health Foundation is pledging $6 million to support the start-up phase of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Centers dental school in El Paso.
During Tuesday's announcement, the foundation said the multimillion-dollar grant will be distributed over the next six years and will be used to hire a dean, recruit faculty and develop a unique community-centered curriculum for the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine.
We are excited to be part of a leadership opportunity to bring a dental school to the region, said Dr. Jose Prieto, Jr., board chair of the Paso Del Norte Health Foundation.
He said that the dental school will contribute, not only to the overall the economic growth of the region, but to creating oral health awareness, which is linked to chronic diseases.
