Update - Woman running illegal group home told clients to keep mum, police say
AUSTIN -- The woman accused of running an illegal group home in East Austin told residents not to talk to police while they attempted to assess their medical condition, according to Austin police.
As police made entry into a home in the 1800 block of Wildrose Drive, Renee Segura-Livingston, 45, told the residents to not answer any questions from police, and not even to tell officers their names, an arrest affidavit said.
Police had responded to a mass casualty event at the home Friday afternoon, the affidavit said. In total, investigators found 22 people inside the 1,400 square foot home with no air conditioning. Paramedics took seven to local hospitals. The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services relocated the other 15 residents.
As police and paramedics triaged the residents, Segura-Livingston tore off patient wristbands worn by several of the residents, causing delays for paramedics and police, the affidavit said.
