Former Texas House Speaker Craddick joins those suing Chesapeake over royalties
FORT WORTH Two companies associated with former Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick are now among hundreds of people and companies suing Chesapeake Energy for allegedly cheating them out of millions of dollars in Barnett Shale royalty payments.
Craddick Partners Ltd. and Mexco Energy Corp. filed its lawsuit last week in Tarrant County civil court against Chesapeake and Total E&P USA as part of the multidistrict litigation cases being handled by Fort Worth attorney Dan McDonald.
The lawsuit states that the two entities own property in Tarrant County that leased mineral interests to Chesapeake, which developed producing gas wells on the lease. Total, a branch of the French energy giant that bought a 25 percent stake in Chesapeake Barnett Shale, also is named.
McDonald said Craddick will be treated just like everyone else. His firm has filed more than 250 lawsuits against Chesapeake involving Barnett Shale leases in the past year.
