Pantex union rejects contract

AMARILLO -- Members of the Pantex Metal Trades Council rejected a four-year contract proposal from Pantex contractor Consolidated Nuclear Security on Saturday, setting the stage for possible further negotiations.

Consolidated Nuclear Security, the Pantex contractor, and the Metal Trades Council, a coalition of 10 Pantex unions representing about 1,100 workers, have been negotiating since January. Members cast their votes Saturday at Caprock High School.

Council President Clarence Rashada said workers cast their ballots and rejected the CNS proposal.

“The contract proposal that CNS has proposed has been rejected,” he said, “Therefore, I have every intention of seeing if I can sit down with the company and try to continue to see if we can work our differences out.”
