Got a question for you Texans...

As my name implies I am from Wisconsin. I've been taking a lot of shit lately for Scott Walker. There's some good natured stuff that I normally join in on because it's fun, but there's beginning to be more and more folks basically blaming this entire state for one Scott Kevin Walker, who is currently trying to appear the most conservative Governor on a stage he shares with the likes of Rick Perry. I do try to explain that while our state has in fact elected a walking, talking Howdy Doody puppet three times in four years, DEMOCRATS on a site like DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND, public school teachers, Planned Parenthood nurses and folks like these are probably not the ones to trash talk.

So what do y'all say to Democrats/ Progressives who blame you, personally, for things like Iraq because, you know, Bush?

Thanks, and Go Rangers. Really-- I still like Prince Fielder.

1. Sorry. You have to stand in line behind Florida. Using geographic entities as

whipping boys seems to be an illogical and cheap norm. On the other hand, evidently you can redeem your self just by moving. So there's that.

4. Yellow Dog Democrat in Texas

I can say I never voted for any member of the Bush family, I never voted for Perry. I always vote a straight Democratic ticket.

Texas gets lots of bad publicity and usually deserves it, what with Ted Cruz, Rick Perry, John Cornyn, and Louie Gohmert. But there are many areas, mostly urban that are Democratic. And the Republican Time bomb is ticking, all the old white men are dying off and Gasp! - all those young Hispanics will soon be of voting age.

7. Fellow Texas Resident...unfortunately I don't think it'll be that easy...

Yes, the old gun-toting good ol' boys can't live forever, but it looks to me like they're being replaced by trigger-happy racists & misogynists who "grew up" (a phrase I use loosely here) trolling the internet & encouraging each other on hate websites. The newest generation of 2nd amendment extremists is like an explosion of frat boy jackasses. If the most sought after demographic in US capitalism is white males ages 14-34, the Texas GOP has turned appealing to 14yo boys into an art form. Yes, we progressives do outnumber Conservatives already. That's what gerrymandering & Voter ID laws are for- keeping the conservative patriarchy in place. We will need more than just time and generational turnover to turn Texas blue. We need our state to be better than just a Democracy In Name Only. We need to reinforce the Voting Rights Act. We need to reinforce Separation of Church & State. We need to wrestle the education of future voters back out of the hands of anti-science fanatics. We need history books that reflect true history instead of whatever happy stories make Americans feel good about themselves. We need Texas politicians to represent the people who live in Texas. We need less guns, border-wars, & sex policing, and more improving the lives of everybody here. And as long as Texas Republicans, including the younger ones (Ted Cruz & his followers aren't going away any time soon) think that all Texas's problems could be solves with Christianity enforced at gun-point, removal of all women's rights, & a border killing field, Texas has a LOOOONG way to go.

5. I've pretty much given up on trying to change the minds of the haters.

Now I simply give a friendly correction to the ones that use Texass: "No, it's Texasperated!"

10. Accuse them of being smug Blue State-ers (because they usually are),

ask them if they've ever even paid a visit to your state (because they usually haven't), and then tell them that if they're going to deal in insults rather than constructive suggestions, they need to get busy fucking themselves (because it feels good to do so).

11. It's useless to waste time on people like that

What I do is stick to groups like this, and try not to engage in fights with fellow Democrats about Texas politics. What I've done is unsubscribe from all out-of-state campaign contribution lists, with the message "I'm not giving any more time or money to out-of-state campaigns until Texas turns BLUE."

Then, I try to making it happen by staying active in my local Democratic Party, working my precinct, keeping Democrats elected in BLUE Dallas County!

Wasting time arguing with people outside your state is a soul-sucking energy drain. Don't do it! Stay positive, stay active, help good people get elected and don't give up!

12. If they blamed me, I'd tell them I didn't vote for him

Furthermore, most people don't realize that almost all the bigger cities in Texas are blue. While GWB was very popular in 2000 and 2004, Romney only got 57%. McCain only got 55%. That's moving towards swingable territory if you ask me.
