El Paso State Rep. Marisa Márquez says she will not run for reelection

State Rep. Marisa Márquez, D-El Paso, announced today on her website that she will not run for reelection next year and is retiring from public office.

Márquez in a statement said that she will continue to serve until her term expires in January 2017.

The election to replace Márquez will be during the primary next March and the general election in November 2016.

"Though my public service is ending, I plan to remain very active in Texas politics," Márquez said in a statement. "I am truly grateful to the many people who have worked with me on the passage of important legislation for our area and to my constituency for their support over the last eight years."
