Related: About this forumTexas Governor Greg Abbott: No Special Session To Pass Anti-Gay Marriage Legislation
Last week, we told you how anti-LGBT activists in Texas were demanding that GOP Gov. Greg Abbott (above) call a special session to pass anti-gay marriage legislation. This was after the Legislature failed to pass any of the more than 20 anti-LGBT proposals introduced this year.
WOIA.com reports that Abbott, who vigorously defended the state's marriage ban as attorney general, says he has no intention of calling a special session on same-sex marriage:
The social conservative groups, including the Texas Eagle Forum, Texas Values, and a group called Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, specifically want Abbott to recall lawmakers to consider a bill that would prohibit county clerks from issuing same sex marriage licenses. ...
But Abbott says it won't happen.
"I do not anticipate any special session," he told News Radio 1200 WOAI. "They got their job done on time, and don't require any overtime."
Under Texas law, only the governor can call the Legislature into special session, and only to discuss the items the governor specifically places on the agenda.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who is rabidly anti-gay and once said God spoke through Phil Robertson of "Duck Dynasty," was also asked about the failure of the Legislature to pass anti-gay marriage legislation.
During an interview with The Texas Tribune's Evan Smith, Patrick mostly dodged questions about a possible special session on same-sex marriage. He pointed to the Legislature's passage of the "Pastor Protection Act," a watered-down bill that merely reaffirms the existing rights of churches and religious leaders under state and federal law.
