Flooding brings an outpouring of community support

[font color=330099]After a recent post about the racial tensions in the town where I grew up, I feel that it is only fair to post a positive story also. We all need some positive news, especially after all of the contentious threads that have appeared this week on DU.[/font]

GEORGE WEST – A community that can help, will, as proved by the recent flood relief effort put forth by George West citizens, churches and various community organizations.

At least two trailer-loads and almost $3K were transported by volunteers to a church organization in Fisher, near Wimberly, for disbursement to victims of the recent flooding in the area.

The children of the Brush County Cowboy Church responded whole-heartedly by manning a lemonade stand with all proceeds going toward the flood relief campaign.

GWISD, Boy Scout troops, and individual citizens rallied to the cause and donated generously.

“All I know is that since the night of the flood in Wimberley, I have watched the George West community,” said GW resident Robin Sellman. First, they got on their knees and prayed for the people involved. Then, they got on their feet and got busy collecting.
