Officials of the agency that manages most of the Texas power grid said Tuesday they expect to have sufficient electricity to meet peak demand during the upcoming fall and winter seasons.
The announcement by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas follows a winter during which ERCOT urged Texans to restrict their electricity use and came just shy of ordering the sequential power cutoffs called rolling blackouts.
On Tuesday, the council issued a final fall report and preliminary winter report projecting that the state would have enough electricity even if demand spiked at the same time power plants unexpectedly went offline.
The state has about 2,100 megawatts of generation capacity it didn't have a year ago, Ken McIntyre, ERCOT's vice president of grid planning and operations, said in a statement.
