Update from Julian Castro - San Antonio

I have donated to his campaign so I get his updates - here is the most recent I received via email today:

Dear Friends,

Today, I joined state and local leaders in announcing $825 million in street and highway projects that will drastically reduce congestion on some of our busiest roadways. The strategic mobility plan involving the City, the Regional Mobility Authority, the San Antonio-Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization and TxDOT will jumpstart long-overdue improvements to Interstate 10, U.S. 281 and Loop 1604 between Potranco Road and U.S. 90.

As part of this groundbreaking agreement involving state and county transportation funding, the City will gain local control of nearly 22 miles of state thoroughfares around major residential business and education hubs in San Antonio. The City will control development and traffic flow on significant sections of Culebra, Fredericksburg, Grissom, Broadway and Hausman roads, to name a few, as a result of this agreement. The agreement with TxDOT for the city to assume control of these streets ensures that they will be improved more quickly and comprehensively. In addition, the City will receive land that is crucial to the expansion of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, expanded TransGuide office space, and investments in key corridor projects around Lackland AFB, Broadway and Wurzbach Parkway.

These robust investments in our transportation infrastructure will instill even more confidence in our strong local economy. Two weeks ago, San Antonio ranked second in Forbes analysis of The Metro Areas With the Most Economic Momentum Going Into 2014. A day later, San Antonio reaffirmed its status as the only major city with a population of more than one million people to score a AAA bond rating from all three major rating agencies — Standard & Poor¹s, Fitch and Moody¹s.

These are exciting times in San Antonio. We are a City on the Rise. And in 2014, San Antonio will rise faster than ever before.

Sincerely,

Mayor Julian Castro
