On the quality of the crop of the current GOP presidential candidates, Matalin said their dropping numbers compared to President Barack Obama are the result of their negative primary campaigns.

"All the Republicans are shooting at each other and the president is shooting at Republicans," she said.

Carville, however, said this "has not been the happiest time" for Republicans. "It's not going very well. It's not," he said.
