South Carolina congressman's wife complains publicly about her taxpayer-supplied health care

Talk about bad optics.

The video posted by the wife of Charleston’s Democratic congressman Joe Cunningham was a self-described “rant” about Congress’ health care plan.

It didn’t cover her therapy sessions, she lamented, or their marriage counseling.

While it was only a minute long, it was long enough to be weaponized by Republicans.

Sitting on the floor and talking directly to the camera, Amanda Cunningham posted on Instagram her dissatisfaction with the health care coverage that comes with being a member of Congress (salary $174,000 a year).

1. I don't think marriage counseling is covered by

very many health plans, IIRC. Lots of other counseling is, though.

She needs to be more aware of the optics of her whining.

3. The only therapy that is covered has a DSM

diagnosis. So, the only way to bill for marriage counseling is to bill one persons plan for a DSM mental health diagnosis.

2. Want to bet she would not at all be in favor of

Medicare for All or any other plan that would give real medical coverage to everyone?
