4th Annual Jog ‘n Hog Set to Challenge Erie-Area Stomachs

Erie, PA: The Erie Sports Commission (ESC) is pleased to announce the 4th Annual Stanganelli’s Pepperoni Ball Jog ‘n Hog will return to Presque Isle State Park on Saturday, June 13.

Runners and pepperoni ball lovers alike will lace up their shoes for the race beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Beach 1. Registration for the annual event opens on February 2 (GroundHOG Day) at www.jognhog.com. Participants who register in February will not be charged a processing fee.

Participants will begin at Beach 1 and run two miles to the Beach 6 parking area, where they will stop and eat either six or three pepperoni balls. Participants will then run back two miles to the starting line at Beach 1.

The Jog ‘n Hog is open to everyone age 10 and up. All runners receive a t-shirt and a coupon for six free Stanganelli’s pepperoni balls in addition to those they have eaten on the course. Registration will be $26 for the gastrointestinally brave who register for the “Whole Hogger,” which involves eating six pepperoni balls, and $24 for “Half Hoggers,” who will eat three pepperoni balls at the race’s halfway point. The race will also feature a hidden $50 bacon ball and a Pace Pig.

Racers who form teams of 15 of more people will each receive an additional $5 off their registration fee after the race. Teams are limited to 20 people.

“The Jog ‘n Hog is a fun race for anyone, of any age, to participate in,” said Andy Smith, who co-organizes the event with his brother Brian. “The Erie region has embraced the pepperoni ball as a staple food item, and they continue to embrace this race as a fun summer tradition.”

“Jog ‘n Hog has been a fun kick-off to the summer for the last three years, and I’m glad that Andy and Brian continue to bring the event back to Erie,” said Ron Sertz, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “It is a very unique event, and I would encourage anyone to participate.”

I live only about an hour or so from Erie, and I have no idea. This sounds truly disgusting. I wonder if anyone loses those pepperoni balls on the jog back to Beach 1.

...pepperoni rolls. Bread dough w/ pepperoni baked inside.

Found this recipe from Erie, uses frozen bread dough:

You can make em really quickly by rolling up pepperoni in Pillsbury crescent rolls. Great on football Sunday.
