http://articles.philly.com/2013-07-15/news/40592283_1_kennels-dog-law-advisory-board-dog-law-enforcementAfter a great deal of citizen pressure, the PA Legislature passed a law to control inhumane conditions at large numbers of puppy mills. It was supposed to take effect a few months after Corbett took office.
So, the did Corbett's PA. Dept of Agriculture rush right out and enforce the law? Of course not. They stopped doing inspections. If you don't inspect them, you won't have to cite them for violations.
We are only finding out about this situation because PA. has a great new Auditor General.
Excerpts:
"An audit by state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale has found that the agency charged with enforcing Pennsylvania's strict new commercial kennel regulations stopped inspecting those kennels at the same time the requirements were to take effect.
"The regulations were supposed to take effect in July 2011, but the auditors found that the agency did not install the necessary equipment to monitor conditions in the kennels, and that dog wardens did not inspect kennels for a year after implementation. The auditors found that the office also allowed kennels to operate without proper engineering certification, and issued waivers that gave operators up to three years to come into compliance.
The auditor general's findings mirror those included in a lengthy report on enforcement produced by a subcommittee of the governor's Dog Law Advisory Board in September."

(16,072 posts)But is it me or are all Republicans nothing more then evil, mouth breathing, slack jawed, knuckle draggers?
It seems that with this atrocity they've reached a brand new low, set voting right back decades, take away a woman's right to choose what medical procedure is the right one for her, and now allowing animals to be treated with cruelty by not conducting inspections as required!

(1,113 posts)There is right and wrong. To me, it has nothing to do with religion, politics, or ethnicity, etc. It has to do with being human. And republicans on all counts cross the line on treating people and animals fairly and humanely. Is it a genetic defect, Is it a mental defect? I try to live by the words of Edward Kennedy:
". . . My brother need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what he was in life; to be remembered simply as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it."
The above should apply to everything in life.
Am I being too idealistic for today's world?

(1,561 posts)Thanks for giving us another example of how rotten the Corbett administration is. I think I'll forward this to Bill White of The Allentown Morning Call. He's been a vocal opponent of puppy mills and animal abuse. It's the only way this story will make The Morning Call.
