PA woman uses shovel to kill cobra slithering on her patio

FALLS, Pa. (AP) ó A Pennsylvania woman used a shovel to kill a cobra she saw slithering on the patio of her apartment.

Kathy Kehoe says the squawking of some blue jays outside her unit caught her attention Monday. When she looked outside, she saw a 4 to 5-foot-long serpent.

Kehoe, 73, says she noticed the lateral spot commonly found on cobras and nudged its tail. When it rose and spread its hood, she realized it was a cobra.

Her apartment complex in Falls is the same one where officials removed 20 venomous snakes from another apartment in March. Officials arenít sure if the cobra had escaped from that unit.

Wildlife officials say people who spot snakes should call police and let experts handle the situation.

1. Invasive cobras?!?

Hopefully the cold winter will kill them off. Exotic animals should be banned for exactly this reason. People are idiots.

2. Cobra venom is extremely deadly

I don't believe many people could survive a cobra bite, certainly not a 73-year-old woman.

8. How about the fact that they shoot the venom at your eyes to blind you?

Unless that's a myth.

4. Yikes! I knew republicans are snakes in the grass but literally? Ha ha! At least this lady had...

enough presence of mind to effectively deal with the poisonous snake before it harmed someone...

5. Cobra?

Well shame on her for killing it, even if it's an introduced species then more reason to call a professional to capture it alive.
They can milk it's venom to create anti venom, it may be needed.

6. Intellectually, I agree .

But if I found a Cobra, on my porch, coming towards my sorry, Irish ass ----

goodbye, Cobra.

7. Same here

I have a duty to save myself before thinking about the possibility of milking a snake.

Assholes and their exotic pets...

10. A Cobra ? In Pennsylvania ???

This HAD to have been someone's pet. WHY ?? I will never understand the attraction to having deadly, lethal species as pets.

And just WHERE did they acquire this snake ? Cobras are not legal as pets here in the US. So, how did it get here and who is selling these things ?
