1. Alberta politicians lit gasoline to a separatist movement there to get lots

of attention. It is a way to shake down a government. As conservative loving as they are, they like canadian healthcare, the educated workers they get from the rest of canada during boom times only (the workers return to other home provinces when they are unemployed) and, though their culture is unique, it is not under threat if they diversify. Unlike quebec that did have a culture that was under threat, this is a power move that seemed to have paid off in western canada after their party lost a close election. Albertans are close to their republican buddies. So no doubt they are learning from each other.
