Take the Seeger over the river, nobody, after all, did more to protect the Hudson than Pete.
A number of people were pushing for this in the comments section of the NYT's obituary, and I think it's perfect. A little at odds with his legacy (the autocar v. the sloop Clearwater...) on the face of it, but what more effective way to honor and promote his legacy?

I'm opposed to multiple-naming. Needless confusion and havoc caused by political pandering. By politicians. ( Who else?)
Just ask any out-of-towner who's looking to get to Queens via the Queensborough/59th Street/Ed Koch Memorial Bridge.

(39,367 posts)Yeah, the renaming gets out of control, and the links between the place and the person are often tenuous at best. The Zee is kind of a cool name because of the Old Dutch tie-in, but you know they're dying to rename it.
The Seeger...hey, it's just one extra syllable! But mostly it's an expression of 21st century values for a bridge that will go up fairly early on in the century, or at least the values we will need to embrace to keep our Valley among the most beautiful places on earth. Probably asking too much of politicians to get all that at the expense of some other vanity play that they will doubtless find more appealing, but it's well worth a try.
