New York
Related: About this forumHope all my fellow New Yorkers are safe and sound. Question about voting in areas affected by Sandy:
Hi all. I'm in Westchester County. I'm fully powered up and so is my polling place. I'm very concerned about people on Long Island and in the coastal areas of Brooklyn and Queens being able to vote. Some of these areas are devastated or lack electricity, gas, or both. These are places that always push NY into the blue zone, so this is pretty important.
Any election experts out there? Does anyone know what can be done to help these people vote? Thanks so much!

(14,337 posts)that they will be setting up tents with paper ballot voting. Usually voting is in schools, but not all schools have power, no gas for cars, and still downed wires across neighorhoods streets.

(2,012 posts)First, we are thinking of you every day and are so very sorry you've had this awful tragedy and lost so much. Second, hope you are safe and all will soon have power and will get the help you need so badly and that you will be able to start thinking toward cleanup and restoration. Third, hope all of you can vote so that we get in leaders who believe in helping their neighbors wherever disaster happens.

We will do our damnedest to get everybody out to vote.

(5,141 posts)That's all I got! Just wanted to say "hey" to a fellow Westchester-ite.
I have power too, but my friends in the neighborhood (Ossining) are all out, so my house has become the place to shower, charge cell phones, and drink wine stop off. Today I sat in traffic behind a whole convoy of utility trucks from Vermont so hopefully we'll all be back up and running soon.

(5,179 posts)I'm in White Plains. We're sort of a patchwork of electricity here, one block on, the next block off. But all things considered, we're doing very well.
I have a friend from Long Island whose parents are flooded out on the south shore, and very worried about voting. It's been really hard to get information for them, but I'm still working on it. I don't actually think the storm will affect Obama's re-election, but I'm trying to chill them out.

(5,141 posts)Not a good situation. My BFF's bro and sister have houses, or rather had houses, in Breezy Point too. I am grateful.
I basically grew up in White Plains (Highlands and Silver Lake...which USED TO BE part of WP but is now part of Harrison) and love it. Opening a restaurant there in the spring!
Glad to know there are other DUer's near by!

(5,179 posts)That is an absolute tragedy, what happened there. Hope everyone is okay.
The Highlands got slammed by downed trees and wires. My mom lives near Mamaroneck Ave. School; power's out in her building. She's been staying with me since Wednesday. We're hoping she can go back tomorrow. I live not far from Ridgeway School.
If you want, message me about your restaurant! That's really exciting! White Plains is the shizz these days.

Love to your peeps.
