Poll: City voters want Democratic convention in Brooklyn

Ryan Hutchins
The vast majority of New Yorkers want to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention, and most say it belongs in Brooklyn, according to the results of a new poll released on Tuesday by Quinnipiac University.

The poll also finds most voters in the city believe they should be allowed to rent out their apartments like hotel rooms, lending support to the embattled website Airbnb. They oppose having separate entrances for the affordable housing sections of luxury buildings, a rebuke to the so-called “poor door.” And they continue to disagree with their mayor on horse-drawn carriages, saying the city should not ban them.

By a 66-23 percent margin, voters said they support Mayor Bill de Blasio in his efforts to lure the convention to New York City. About 78 percent of Democrats and 60 percent of independents said yes, while 52 percent of Republicans said no.
