Voters: Most lawmakers do what s best for themselves

By Seamus Lyman

A majority of New Yorkers say in the latest Siena

College poll that they are not surprised when state politicians are indicted.

Overall, 65 percent of the 774 likely registered New York voters say the statement "Most state legislators do what's best for them and their political friends and it never surprises me when another one gets indicted" most accurately describes their feelings toward the state Legislature. Of those polled, 28 percent said the statement "most state legislators are honest, hardworking and do what's best for their constituents" accurately represented how they felt about the legislature. Seven percent had no opinion or did not know.
