NY Conservative Party chairman rips Christie: He’s “in bed with Andrew Cuomo”

Joseph Spector

State Conservative Party chairman Mike Long today criticized New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for seemingly abandoning GOP gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino, saying Christie “in his bed with Andrew Cuomo.”

The Conservative Party has endorsed Astorino, the Westchester County executive. Christie said yesterday that as head of the Republican Governors Association, he won’t “invest in lost causes” in putting money behind Astorino.

“To me, if you’re the head the Republican Governor’s Association, you should get engaged in every state wherever there is competition,” Long told Gannett’s Albany Bureau. “For more reasons that one, you grow the party by doing that, whether the candidate wins or loses, but it’s clear to me that Christie is in bed with Andrew Cuomo.”

Long pointed to news reports last November that indicated that Christie was bullish on Astorino’s chances against Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Then, Cuomo revealed, he spoke to Christie about it after a New York Post story said Christie was ready to back Astorino, and Cuomo disputed the reports.
