Espaillat: ‘I’m not upset. I’m happy’

State Senator Adriano Espaillat called some of the attacks against him “over the border.”

And said the Times was “way off ... way off" in saying he emphasized his Dominican heritage during the campaign.

But at the same time, he thinks he made a “major statement” at the polls, considering "the whole Washington permanent government came out” for his opponent, Rep. Charlie Rangel.

Sitting in his campaign headquarters Thursday afternoon hours after conceding the 13th Congressional District primary to Rangel, Espaillat was all smiles.
