Pols Blast Bloomberg During Security Announcement at P.J. Avitto’s Home

Will Bredderman

A trio of Democratic pols lashed out today at the Bloomberg administration during an announcement of 17 long-awaited security cameras at the Brooklyn public housing development where two children were stabbed, one fatally, more than a week ago.

Mayor Bill de Blasio, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and East New York Councilwoman Inez Barron blamed the Bloomberg administration for a five-year delay in the arrival of a surveillance system at the Boulevard Houses–where police say Daniel St. Hubert stabbed six-year-old Prince Joshua P.J. Avitto and his seven-year-old friend Mikayla Capers, killing Avitto and injuring Capers.

“I’m not going to mince words. It’s quite clear the previous administration in a big way did not take requests for cameras seriously,” said Mr. de Blasio, admitting that the housing authority had been slow to get funded cameras to their intended destinations during his first months in office as well. “That’s unacceptable in the previous administration, it’s unacceptable in my administration.”

Bloomberg catered to the rich NYC residents. Brooklyn wasn't high on his radar. However, if someplace on the Upper West Side wanted the camera(s), I'm sure they'd have been installed within days.
