State funds to help grow local farm markets

Thedailystar.com

Twenty thousand dollars’ worth of seed money has been allotted to grow two local farm-to-market programs, according to a media release from the governor’s office.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced $350,000 in funding through the state’s FreshConnect Farmers’ Market program earlier in May to help increase access to fresh, local produce.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County will receive $10,000 through the program to fund the Bullthistle Farmers’ Market, offering farmers and craftspeople in Chenango County and western Otsego County a market for their goods.

The Corbin Hill Food Project, which connects upstate farmers with customers in New York City, will also receive $10,000.
